IMPORTANT: Whois

When you register a domain name, three sets of contact information are created: Administrative, Technical and Billing. This is called a Whois record.

The Admin, Tech and Billing contact can all be the same organization/person, or they can be different.

IMPORTANT: The most common and troublesome problem with the Whois record is that customers often fail to update it when contact information changes, especially the administrative contact e-mail address. In order to maintain a domain name and properly manage it, always use the most up-to-date contact information.

To access WHOIS information for a domain name that has been registered with us (or one that has been transferred), log in to SiteControl, and click the Domain Name icon. In the Domain Names page, choose the domain name in question by clicking the Edit link. Scroll down on the Summary page and in the Registration Privacy section click the View Whois Info link.

To access Whois information for any domain name, go to whois.domainpeople.com and type in your domain name.

Whois Protector - Keeping Your Information Private

ICANN, the international governing body for domain names, requires every Registrar to maintain a publicly accessible "WHOIS" database displaying all contact information for all domain names registered.

Our Whois Protector service provides you a way to keep your personal name and contact information hidden in the public WHOIS records, which are available on the Internet for anyone to see, including spammers, identity thieves, and telemarketers. When you purchase a private domain name and select to add the WhoisProtector service, our partner WhoisProtector.com provides its contact information in the WHOIS database in place of yours. Your contact information is kept private and you still retain full control over your domain name.

In order to add Whois Protector, log in to SiteControl, select the Domain Names link, and click Edit next to the desired domain name. Then click Add Whois Protector.
